La-Mulana (2012)

In 2009, NIGORO announced a remake of La-Mulana for WiiWare, which was released in Japan in 2011. After a protracted development period, during which then-publisher Nicalis canceled the US release, the remake was eventually published by EnjoyUp Games on the North American WiiWare shop in September of 2012, albeit without the Hell Temple downloadable content.

While the structure and content of the game remains mostly the same as the 2005 version, there are numerous differences: the graphics and music have been updated, the puzzles have been made slightly less obtuse, and the collectible ROM system has been replaced by collectible computer programs, each of which takes a certain amount of RAM to use. (To make up the difference, the shopkeepers and other NPCs in the game have names that are all references to MSX games.)

The WiiWare version of the game became the basis for the later versions, such as PC, which did include Hell Temple, and which was released in the summer of 2012. Later, Pygmy Studio developed the PS Vita port known as La-Mulana EX, which was based on the WiiWare port as well, but with some extra features such as a Bestiary function.

Most recently, La-Mulana was included in a compilation collection for consoles known as La-Mulana 1 & 2, released in 2020.
